3 Helpful Tips To Prepare Your Roof For The Upcoming Spring Season

This winter has definitely been one for the books, and with unusually cold weather we have been experiencing lately finally giving way to temperatures that are a bit more like what we are used to here in the Boca Raton area, many homeowners are started to tentatively look forward to the upcoming spring season and everything it brings with it. With spring just over a month or so away, now is the time to start making your way back outside and making sure that all of the various areas of your home survived the winter in one piece, and this includes your roof. As we all know, the spring months here in Florida bring their fair share of rain and winds, and if your roof has suffered any kind of damage in the preceding months, whether it was from the unusually cold winter, or the highly turbulent hurricane season we had last year, it can spell trouble for your home. As the weather continues to warm in the coming weeks and we start to move into the spring season officially, the time is now to start taking a look at your roof and ensuring it is prepared to withstand what’s ahead. To assist you in this effort, our team of professionals here at Blues Brothers Roofing Company, have taken the time to put together this short list containing some useful tips about how to successfully prepare your roof for the coming spring.

Clean Your Gutters

For many homeowners, as we move into the spring and summer months, one thing they aren’t going to miss are all of the falling leaves around their home. These leaves are usually coming down all throughout the fall and winter season, and with spring showers just around the corner, now is the time to make sure that those leaves haven’t accumulated in your gutters to an extent that could keep them from doing their job in he coming months. If your gutters are unable to channel all of the rain your roof is going to receive in the spring safely down and away from your home’s foundation in the coming months, it can lead to a surprising amount of damage to both. After cleaning your gutters of any remaining fall and winter debris, you can then check them for cracks or other signs of damage that might keep them from performing their job like they should, or have a professional do so for you.

Check Your Attic

Another important task you can do to ensure your roof is prepared for spring is to get up in your attic and take a look around while you are putting away any holiday decorations that might still be lingering about your house. Sometimes, roof damage isn’t going to be readily visible on the surface, but by going through and taking a look around the inside of your attic, you can get a much clearer picture of the condition of your roof. You are going to want to be on the lookout for any signs that might indicate water has been getting inside your home. This can include streaking, yellowing paint, and wet insulation, among other things.

Trim Away Overhanging Branches

As most Floridians are aware, the winds can get quite chaotic during the spring months here, and these passing wind storms can take a serious toll on the trees around your home. During these wind storms, it is extremely easy for trees to lose their branches, especially if any of those branches have died during the cold winter months, or just having gotten their strength back yet. Taking the time now to inspect your trees and remove any branches that could be problematic or dangerous if they were to come down during a storm with high winds might just be one of the smartest decisions you could make.
